Anytime I feel emotionally stressed, I make soup.  Even if no one eats it, it makes me feel better to spend a lot of time making soup. The sheer contemplation of making soup calms me.  The type of soup depends on the depth of my angst. Chicken soup with lemon and dill or another variation with simmering ginger can reveal that I 'm either depressed or upset, or maybe someone is just sick.  Vegetables are always cut in big Greek chunks, sometimes whole. Barley is always comforting, especially with turnip and parsnips. Soup is good, soup is important whatever the reason, whatever the season. I love soup.
